Barrington Grotto

The homeowners wanted to introduce a small swimming pool while preserving the open, park-like character of their backyard. Careful siting was essential, both to protect the existing mature trees and to ensure the pool area would receive ample sunlight throughout the day.

Tucked into the landscape, the pool area was designed as a relaxed backyard grotto. At its center is a compact Soake pool, allowing the space to function as both a cooling plunge in summer and a warm soaking pool in cooler months. A gas fire bowl nearby provides a natural gathering point, creating a cozy setting for evenings by the water.

Surrounded by informal plantings and shaded by the existing canopy of trees, the space feels private, intimate, and seamlessly integrated into the surrounding landscape.
