Pawtuxet Village
During a major home renovation and addition, we worked closely with the architect to design a backyard that would transform the steeply sloping site into a series of functional and inviting outdoor spaces. On this relatively compact lot, the goal was to extend the living areas outdoors while gracefully navigating significant grade changes.
Custom fieldstone retaining walls anchor the design and shape multiple terraces that create distinct garden rooms and intimate vignettes. A large bluestone terrace with a small pool forms the central gathering space, seamlessly connected to the house for outdoor dining and relaxation.
Below, a paver pathway leads to a more informal fire pit patio tucked behind the guesthouse and surrounded by relaxed coastal plantings. Nearby, a reclaimed granite landing creates a welcoming entrance to the reimagined boathouse.
Lush plantings weave throughout the landscape, providing season-long color and texture. For the homeowner—an avid plant lover with a particular fondness for long-blooming perennials—the garden offers continuous interest and a vibrant backdrop for outdoor living.
